Shotengai in Japan: Nostalgic, Atmospheric Streets Crammed with Cheap, Delicious Eats

On my first trip to Japan, I raced through as many tourist hot spots as possible and I was blown away by its ultra-clean cities. On my second trip, I stumbled on a grittier but equally enchanting side to Japan in its cute alleyways and everyday local shopping streets. Plus: the scrumptious snacks! I still love slowly savoring these ordinary streetscapes, like an ever-hungry rat, crawling hidden back lanes.

Here’s my story published in GaijinPot, Tokyo
